Stimmler, L., Snodgrass, G. J. A. I., and Jaffe, E. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 217. Dental defects associated with neonatal symptomatic hypocalcaemia. 12 children who had had hypocalcaemic convulsions between the 5th and 10th day of life were followed for 2 to 5 years. All 12 children had serious abnormalities of enamel of the canine and molar teeth resulting in progressive destruction ofthese teeth.

DiGeorge syndrome presenting as late onset hypocalcaemia in adulthood
We report a 29 year old female with mild dysmorphic facial features, presenting with late onset symptomatic hypocalcaemia in adulthood. The presence of hypoparathyroidism in association with a history of transient neonatal hypocalcaemia and velopharyngeal incompetence during childhood, prompted chromosomal analysis for DiGeorge Syndrome. Fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) analysis reveal...
متن کاملSerum PTH and ionized calcium levels as predictors of symptomatic hypocalcemia after parathyroidectomy.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether perioperative PTH levels or ionized calcium levels are associated with symptomatic hypocalcaemia, in patients undergoing parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism. STUDY DESIGN Prospective noncontrolled study of a cohort of 100 patients, undergoing parathyroidectomy at a single tertiary care medical centre. METHODS Prospectively collected data from Janu...
متن کاملThe Effect of Phototherapy on Serum Calcium Level in Full Term Neonates
Background: Jaundice is one of the most common problems occurring in the neonatal period. It is commonly managed by phototherapy with its inherent complications. However, this treatment modality may itself result in the development of hypocalcaemia and create serious complications including convulsion and related conditions. Objective: To determine the effect of phototherapy on serum calcium le...
متن کاملSignificance of hypocalcaemia in neonatal convulsions.
For many years birth trauma has been stated to be the commonest cause of neonatal convulsions; there have, however, been few prospective studies to support this view. In 1954 Burke studied 46 infants who had had convulsions in the first 2 weeks of life; in 70% of the series she found birth trauma or anoxia during birth to have been the likely cause of the fit, and over a third of the infants co...
متن کاملPrevalence of hypocalcaemia and its associated features in 22q11·2 deletion syndrome
BACKGROUND 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is a relatively common yet under-recognized genetic syndrome that may present with endocrine features. We aimed to address the factors that contribute to the high prevalence of hypocalcaemia. METHODS We investigated hypocalcaemia in a well-characterized sample of 138 adults with 22q11.2DS (65 m, 73 F; mean age 34.2, SD 11.8, years) using labora...
